Weather on Bing and Bing APIs

I guess that most of you have tried out Bing by now. Today I got an email from them (they are sending to everyone with any Microsoft account) promoting the search engine. This one is for those without Microsoft account of any type.

Now you can get the weather of your place by typing “weather” in the box and pressing enter. Bing identifies your position by your ip address and delivers the weather results and forecasts for 3 days. They also provide links to get detailed weather forecast. This is what it looks like. Try it out. By the way they will deliver wrong forecasts if you use proxy. And they did not get the weather website of Indian Govt in the results like Google.

Also Bing has started providing tools and APIs for use in websites under the name “Project Silk Road“. Here is the quote from them:-

Offerings that are part of Project Silk Road include: the Bing and Virtual Earth APIs, adCenter Publisher, Webmaster Center, the Custom Web Error Toolkit, and the Excel Add-in for adCenter. Instant Answers and Video Syndication services are also available, but are invitation-only at this time.”

Protocols for Bing API 2.0 are JSON,XML and Soap.
Thats all for now.

  • i think that Bing is not as good as Google. Google would still index new websites faster than Bing. Microsoft would still need a lot of catching to do with GoogleBot.

  • I use both Bing and Google search engine and i dont see much difference in their search results. I use google for searching hard to find academic topics and Bing for general search.

  • Google will always be ahead, but only because the general public are lazy. Bing have to develop creative and ground breaks addons to raise the personal value to the front end users.
