Mexico Domain
Mexico domain names were not available for registration till now. .mx is the Country Code Top Level Domain of Mexico. Now, everyone knows that having a country specific TLD greatly helps in ranking in regional SERPs. So, the good news is that if you need to rank well in Mexico related websites, you can now get the ccTLD of Mexico which is .mx.
Originally launched in 1989, .mx is now being re-launched with no organization or location restrictions by NIC Mexico. So if your family, your business or interests are tied to Mexico, say “Si!” to .mx. But the whole process is a little complicated.
First of all, there is a pre-registration period or sunrise period from May1 to July 31 in which those who own second level Mexico domain names like com.mx (free to all), net.mx (network providers), edu.mx (educational institutions) will be able to register their domain for 1 year.
In the next period, from August 1 to August 31, the domain names bought in sunrise period must be set up and disputes must be resolved.
Then comes the initial registration period from September 1 to October 31 in which ordinary buyers (without second level Mexico domains) will be able to register .mx domain names on a first come, first serve basis. But bear in mind that you can register .mx Mexico domains for 1 year tenure only.
You can apply for pre-registration at Godaddy if you have a second level Mexico domain already. Else you will have to wait till September 1. You cannot buy a second level Mexico domain now to be eligible for pre-registration. Only domains registered before 1st March are eligible.
