For those Adsense users who are unaware of the category filter feature in Adsense, it is a nifty, little feature which enables a publisher to filter out certain categories of ads from appearing on their websites. Thus it provides more control over the ads which will be displayed on your site. By this method you can even block keyword targeted ads. Currently, there are 11 categories which you can block. They are
- Cosmetic procedures and surgery
- Dating
- Drugs and supplements
- Get rich quick
- Politics
- Religion
- Ringtones and downloadables
- Videogames
- Weight loss
- ###ualy suggestive
- ###ual and reproductive health
According to Adsense, their system automatically classifies the ads in these categories and does not rely upon the categories chosen by the advertisers. That’s a good thing given the honesty of the advertisers. Till now, the category filter feature is limited to English ads only. Also you can only block up to 5 categories. You can access it from inside Ad review centre in your Adsense account.
Can it help me?
Sure it can. Inside the Ad review centre, you will be given the earnings percentage and impression percentage from each category. Look for the categories which has got high impression percentage coupled with low earning percentage. These are the non-performing ads for your website and eating up the impression counts. Mark 3-5 low performing categories and exclude them. Thus you will free up a lot of more impressions and earn more from well performing ads. I have personally increased my earnings by 50% by this little feature. Try it. Let me know if it helps. Don’t forget to subscribe to my feed if you liked this post.
