5 reasons to comment on nofollow blogs

Have you been brainwashed into believing that commenting on a nofollow blogs is just “a big big waste” of your precious online time? If yes, then you are not alone. I myself used to think the same way until sometime back.

I have always been an avid reader of some top blogs in this niche like Problogger, DBT and John  Chow. But I was never too keen on joining the discussions (a mistake as I understand now). Anyways, one day I decided to  comment on a post. And then someone replied to my comment and we had quite a long discussion on problogger.  This got me in the mood of commenting and I made quite a few comments on the next few days. About a week later when I checked my Analytics I was amazed. My traffic had seen a nice increase and all the credits went to those comments I made. Moral of the story- Comments are always useful whether do follow or nofollow. Here are the benefits you can get out of it.

Traffic will increase

Isn’t this the main reason why most of us blog?  A blog needs visitors to live and provide the blogger  some reason for continuing with his blogging work (unless its a very hobby type thing). Comment links will provide just that. A brand new blog can get decent traffic if the blogger religiously and regularly comments on a number of related blogs. Even an established blogger could pull quality traffic from this method.

Targeted audience mean subscribers

When you comment on a blog in your niche, you are actually doing yourself a huge favor. A visitor coming from a blog dealing with the same subject as yours will definitely have some interest in your blog too- that is a targeted visitor. Now you don’t need to be a genius to understand that interested people are more likely to subscribe to your blog than ones who have reached you by loosing direction.

Building rapport with other bloggers

Commenting on the blog of a fellow blogger is also a great way to build rapport with him or her. By commenting on blogs and providing useful information, you can make others aware of your presence. Useful comments would lead to a fellow blogger paying a visit to your blog and hopefully leaving a comment (something I have seen often). Thus a relationship will grow and this relationship goes a long way in this world of blogging. For example you can see how Problogger and DailyBlogTips often refer to each others content and promote their stuff one one anothers blog.

You can share your Posts

A well written reply to a post on another blog is a great way to gain publicity for your own posts. With plugins like Comluv (as on this blog) its super easy to make your latest posts visible in the net. And you can also do this the old way by adding the link to your reply. The reply must be high quality and the link must be related to the post to make it stick though. I recommend that after publishing each post on your blog, just search for related posts on the net and make useful comments with your link.

Nofollow links DON’T hurt

Many say they are bad but in my experience they never do any harm and niether they should. If they could, then it would have already been used a million of times by “mean”  webmasters to hurt their competition. They would just build thousands of no-follow comment links to any site they wished to falter in the SERPs. So, my understanding is that these links do not hurt a bit and should not be avoided for such fears.
